To quote Dan Sullivan, “Success and failure in life are based largely on habit. Successful people are successful because of their habits. Unsuccessful people become entrenched in failure because they have unsuccessful habits.”

Being intentional with your habits is key to embedding behaviours that drive the results you want in your life.

Three steps to being intentional with your habit of success:

  1. Make a list of habits you may want to adopt to drive successful behaviours. See some ideas below.
  2. Pick one to implement straight away. I suggest that you pick one that gives you the most bang for your buck – relatively    easy to implement AND relatively high impact
  3. Track your habit as you do it. Write it down, declare it to people around you, create a star chart (just like when we were kids) – whatever blows your hair back. Tracking gives us a sense of achievement, just like crossing off an item on our to-do list.

Some ideas for daily habits are: a daily practice of gratitude; positive focus; stillness; listening to your intuition; becoming aware of our emotions; punctuality; 5 min planning time; acknowledging positive behaviours; giving compliments are just a few.

One final tip:

Find a way to do it that won’t require too much thinking effort to get started. For example, attach it to something you’re already doing like as you wake up or while you’re brushing your teeth. Putting it in your calendar with an alarm reminder is another way to ensure you do it.

And remember, every time you practise something, it has the potential to become a habit.  So choose your habit of success and do it.
