A few months ago I wrote about the book, “What I know for sure,” by Oprah Winfrey which led me to some interesting thinking about how to answer the question – what do you know for sure? You can read the article here.

This week’s podcast is all about that too. In a world of uncertainty, change and even chaos, how can you use this question to centre yourself and keep yourself grounded with the things you do know for sure.
Have a listen here to Episode 35 of Leadership Live Podcast – What do you know for sure?

And today, as I write this I’m thinking that it’s also ok not to know, to remain open and curious and go with the flow Because that’s how we can be really creative and connected to the people around us.

So try this exercise, as you grapple with something you’re trying to figure out, hold on to the sense of curiosity of a 5 year old, and ask

1. What if it could be really easy?
2. Why is this important?
3. Who can help?
4. How can I make a difference?

Start a conversation with the people around you – ask yourself, ask others and remain open to the crazy ideas too. Because that’s where the interesting stuff happens and the creative ideas come from.

As a CEO, you may think you have to know the answers since you have people who rely on you for that. However, people rely on you to bring out the best in them – the best thinking, the best creativity and the best of themselves. So try out ’not knowing’ and ask more questions. While the things we know for sure can ground us, the things we don’t know can help us and others soar.
