Moving from old-fashioned alarm clocks to our smartphones (and the clock radio before that) has brought with it the concept of the snooze button.
That dreaded snooze button makes procrastination just a little easier.
A survey conducted by OnePoll in 2020 shows that it takes the average American 24 minutes to get out of bed in the morning. They hit snooze twice before getting up.
How many times do you hit snooze before getting out of bed in the morning?
Click here and tell me, I’m curious to know.
And with the last year we’ve had, it’s so easy to hit that snooze button and stay in bed a bit longer. I’ve spoken with many people who’re feeling exhausted, depleted and drained.
We survived 2020.
We had great expectations for the beginning of 2021.
And what’s changed?
Not much, so far.
With more closures, restrictions and uncertainty about when vaccines will be available around the world, we’re still feeling the funk.
The good news is that if you’re feeling this way – it’s totally normal and you can do something about it.
Here are some suggestions:
- First, notice that this is how you and people around you may be feeling.
- Practise empathy towards yourself and the people around you. Make an effort to connect with one person a day and ask how they’re doing.
- Find ways to break the routine with regular walks outside, consistent exercise, eat healthy and get some sleep.
- Do something fun, like putting on some great music and either relaxing with it or dancing around the room with joy – whatever you prefer in that moment
- My favourite – pause for a moment, breathe and ask yourself, what do I want to do right now? Not what I need to do, should do, am expected to do… only what I really feel like doing in this moment and then go do just that.
