“Always remember that the main thing is to make the main thing the main thing.”
– Brendon Burchard
This quote struck me. The way I see it, there are 2 parts to it:
Part 1: Figuring out – what is your main thing?
Part 2: Making sure that you keep focused on the main thing without getting distracted by the stuff that enters your space and take you away from your main thing.
In these times, Part 2 is hugely challenging. The ability to focus is currently, in my opinion, a scarce resource. Those that are able to focus on their main thing move with momentum and power that is inspiring and extraordinary. This is personal mastery.
However, if you don’t have the clarity of Part 1, Part 2 doesn’t even make sense. That’s when we feel totally at sea, running from doing one thing to doing the next, and never really feeling like we’re making significant strides in what we want.
And, we may have Part 1 clarity. But… without the intentional, conscious focus of Part 2, we work around the results that we really need, often getting distracted to other (maybe even related things) without seeing the results coming to fruition at the level we imagine or desire.
So… I recently sat with my strategic advisor and mentor (part of my A-Team) and decided on my main thing. This doesn’t mean I’ll only be doing one thing but rather, that I’ll assess my activities so that my main thing takes centre stage of my doing.
With that I’m releasing the run around that comes with many ideas and lots of busy-ness. I feel focused, still as busy as ever, and inspired to make my main thing the main thing!
So… how are you going to focus on your main thing?
